Singing Lessons...

Hubby was trying to learn the song, Great God, for his audition for the church band. When Z heard it he liked the song so much that he promptly got his guitar so he can “play” alongside Daddy. I wanted to contribute something so I tried teaching Z the lyrics. So we spent an hour trying to learn this song.  Every day I would ask him to sing it to me and correct him if he misses a word.  Then just this afternoon Z was trying to wake up his Dad and he was already running out of ideas how to wake him from his afternoon nap.  Suddenly, he sang “Great God” and this time he got all the lyrics perfectly!  I’m so happy for him for a job well done.  Now, I can’t wait to capture him in a video so I can share it to the world.

I Love My Preschooler!...

I so love my preschooler!  For sure I miss him when he was still a cute and cuddly baby.  I remember I could hug him then and he wouldn’t budge.  Now, when hubby and I hug him he twists and twists until he’s out of our grasp.  We would always complain to him that we can’t hug him properly anymore and we would remind him how he loves our hugs when he was still a baby.  Of course, now he’s witty enough to have a retort every time we say that but that’s one of the reasons why I love my preschooler!

So why do I love my preschooler?  Here are more reasons why:

1.  My preschooler talks!  Sure, a cooing baby is a delight but it sure gets lonely inside the house with no one to talk to.  Now that my baby is already a preschooler it is so much noisier inside the house.  We never run out of topics because he asks a LOT of questions.  It can be tiring to answer all of them but at least I can have a decent conversation inside the house.

2.  No more dirty diapers to deal with!  Isn’t that enough reason to rejoice?  My preschooler tells me when he needs to go to the bathroom.  I can ask him to hold it when we’re inside the train or in a place where there’s no comfort room and that won’t be a problem to him.  Now if only he can already wash himself then he’ll be perfect! hehe

3.  My preschooler can do errands for me.  When he was just a baby it seems my two hands were never enough.  I had to hold him where ever I go and since I only have two hands that doesn’t leave me enough to do anything else.  Moreso when he became a toddler.  I had to run all over the place to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself or get in trouble.  Now, that he’s a preschooler it seems like I have grown a pair of extra hands overnight.  And not just any pair of hands, mind you, but a pair of really HELPFUL hands.  From getting me a glass of water to rubbing his Daddy’s itchy back he surely can be counted on.  I can’t even remember the last time I had to pick up his toys after him. Did I say I love my preschooler? hihi

4.  I have a mini me!  I love watching movies and my husband shared the same hobby with me – back then when we were still dating.  Now that he’s already working and has no time to watch all the movies I want to watch I can rely on my preschooler to watch everything with me.  We watch everything together from horror movies to psychological thrillers and he wouldn’t blink even at the most scary parts.  I would gladly return the favor by watching his favorite shows like Spongebob Squarepants and Avatar: The Last Airbender and we would have a good laugh over those.

My preschooler is also a mini version of his Daddy. When his Dad comes home and picks up his guitar, my preschooler would get his own guitar and “practice” with him.  They would watch music videos together and learn the songs together.  Sometimes my preschooler gets too rowdy and Daddy would reprimand him which would send my preschooler coming back to mommy.  But what I like the best about my preschooler is I’ll just tell him something funny and he’ll be back to his old self.

I could go on and on about how I love my preschooler but honestly, sometimes when I see his baby pictures I can’t help but tell him how I miss having him as a baby.  So what does my preschooler do to make Mommy happy?  He asks me to tickle him like I did when he was still a baby and he would laugh his cute but fake laugh.  And then his thoughtful gesture would remind me all over again why I’m so love having  preschooler.

A History Lesson Too Early...

For two nights now I have been sleeping late.  I would like to take some sleep aids but I guess that’s better because I’m more productive now.  I’m glad I’m gaining back my momentum.  The first trimester of pregnancy was harder than I expected but I thank God it’s all over now.  Aside from this persistent cough that I came down with a couple of days ago I’m on the road to recovery and ready to work again.  I have so many things I need to do before I give birth in December and that’s why I need to keep really busy.

I’m also happy that I get to spend more time with Z now that my schedule is more flexible. We get to do a lot together like watch his favorite shows, play his favorite games, and talk about all kinds of stuff. You won’t believe the stuff we talk about -  he’s just so curious! Like the other day, he started asking about Andres Bonifacio again and how he became a hero. So since I’m a person who’s into details I just can’t give him a one sentence answer so we opened his history book and started browsing from the beginning until almost to the end. So now he knows more than he needs to know like Spaniards, Americans, and the Japanese who came to occupy the Philippines and the sacrifices that our heroes did to defend us from them. We searched for pictures of Rizal being imprisoned in Fort Santiago and because little Z has visited that same place a year ago we searched for his picture there.  I showed him the footsteps of Rizal from his prison cell all the way to Luneta where he was shot.  He was delighted that he had a picture of himself walking on those same footprints.

Of course, after that I had to show him a picture of Rizal being shot by firing squad and we even watched a video of the World War II.  Geez, I really don’t know when to stop, do I?  Now my five year old knows more than he needs to know!

A Trip to the Dentist...

Z took a break from playing with his toy cars and admiring body kits on the road and went to the dentist last Friday. We have visited the dentist a couple of times to familiarize him but this was the first time something was actually done on his poor teeth. We were always hesitant because we’re afraid that he would scream loudly and the dentist won’t be able to finish the procedure but this dentist was quick and before Z knew what was going on she was able to drill holes on his four teeth and filled it with teeth fillings.

Poor Z!

As if that wasn’t stressful enough the dentist lost no time and started the procedure on extracting one front tooth.  Z wasn’t able to do anything when she stuck the needle into his gums.  When the he finally felt the pain he tried to cry out but it was too late as the dentist already had a firm grip on him. LOL!  I was shocked too that the dentist was able to do so many things in such a short span of time.  His Dad, who arrived a few minutes later, was also shocked at what happened to his beloved boy.  We really baby him too much but it turned out we had nothing to worry about as he was able to successfully complete the procedures and bear the pain.

First Day of School...

Z said almost all his classmates are girls.  I’m sure he is disappointed as Z prefers to play with boys than girls at this age.  It’s different than with his previous school where there were more boys than girls but they were 25 in class before.  Now, they’re less than 15 and with two teachers I hope he’ll be better supervised.  He used to arrive home with incomplete seatworks.  I’m glad the teacher rewards them for finishing their work.  Z likes rewards very much and even if it’s just a simple stamp on the hand or a sticker it is enough for him.  He told me he likes his teacher now way better because of her stamps with assorted shapes.  He even completed his coloring work in a hurry just to get the star stamped on his hand right away.
