Free Baby Stuff

Posted by on Dec 17, 2012 in Helpful Tips | 0 comments

Babies grow up fast. It is a fact that babies seem to outgrow their clothes and toys all too quickly. That is why getting free stuff is the better option to go these days especially in an economy where most would not mind saving an extra couple bucks. Baby goods are not cheap. From activity centers, walker, baby carrier, highchair, crib, changing table, and car seats, these all add up to quite a hefty price tag. Most of these items are used just a couple months before your baby does not need it at all. I have not even included diapers and wipes which are usually needed for the first two to three years. Are you crunching the numbers and calculating the total cost? Take it from me, a mother of a baby and toddler. Any mother would not mind free baby stuff. We need to make our dollars stretch and if we had a little relief from the baby goods department, then it would take a great deal off our shoulders. So, next time when you are wondering what a mother or baby might need, don’t have any doubt in your mind that a free box of diapers or wipes is exactly what they need!

All the gadgets and electronics we use to make our lives easier today are actually making us lazier. Many years from now, we may very well be living in an environment similar to that of the movie WALL-E, (we’ll still be on Earth, though) where we hardly have to do anything ourselves. Robotic gadgets will do them for us. Take a look at these gadgets.

Safeguarding our House from Flooding using a Concrete Sealer

Posted by on Sep 20, 2012 in Helpful Tips | 0 comments

Two years ago, we were renting an apartment. But when my husband’s family moved out of their old house and left it vacant we decided to move back in to take advantage of a rent-free house. Everything was going great but there was one problem. The house is lower than the road so water seeps in when it’s raining hard.So before the rainy season came last summer we decided to hire our uncle to remedy the cracks in the floor with a concrete sealer. Uncle was kind enough to help us and he spent half a day crouching down and making sure everything is sealed. He put in concrete sealer in all the sides of the wall leaving no crack exposed because if he missed one then surely the water will find it and come rushing in.

We also cleaned the roof and the gutters from debris so that rainwater can flow freely away from the house. Hubby read that if the water drips to the foundation it will eventually seep inside the house.

So everything was already cleaned and ready for the rainy season. All we had to do was wait for the rain to come.

We didn’t have to wait long and the rainy season started. We held our breath and waited. The water didn’t come in during the first few days and we thought we were safe. But after a few days of non-stop raining it eventually came. It came in trickles at first but once the barrier has been breached it came flowing nonstop.

We were so disappointed with the concrete sealer that we’ve used. It was just something generic we bought at our hardware store. We wanted to save money so that’s what we bought.

So I did a little research and found that VSeal is the most trusted concrete sealer in the market. I should have bought that instead of the cheap sealant. This would have resisted the water better.

Right now, we’re thinking of moving out for a while and renting an apartment and let the rainy season pass. But next year we’ll definitely try again but this time we’ll be using VSeal.

This is a sponsored post for VSeal, however, all the points and views are my own.

E-commerce sales worldwide will be more than $1.25 trillion by 2013, and interest in this sphere is intense. Shopify ecommerce websites are one of the leading e-commerce websites solution in the world.

Shopify was established in 2004 by Scott Lake and Tobias Lutke, two snowboarding enthusiasts under 30 years of age who desired a better manner in which to sell their products online. Among designers, Shopify’s e commerce website templates are very professional. It enables retailers to set up a storefront within minutes, rapidly add items to sell and receive payments through PayPal,Google™ Checkout, bank transfers, credit cards and other means.

Shopify refers to storefront templates as themes and offers a selection of more than a hundred. A “guru” is assigned to every Shopify store – a coach who will support you in your e-commerce endeavours at any time. Shopify is well known for its ease of use and obsession with good design. It is suited to people of every skill level.  The design gurus, Tina Roth Eisenberg and Jeffrey Zeldman, both have Shopify stores.

For a third time, the Shopify ecommerce platform is running a competition called Build-a-Business. Winners in previous years were DODOCase and Coffee Joulies, of which the latter expects to make a million dollars of sales this year. More than 4,400 new businesses have been created as a result of the two earlier competitions.

There are four categories: gadgets and accessories, art, design and home, fashion and everything else. There is a mentor for each category, who will actively advise contestants. These are Lean Startup author, Eric Ries, swissmiss creator, Tina Roth Eisenberg, FUBU founder, Daymond John and Four-Hour Workweek author, Tim Ferriss: respected figures in the world of e-commerce. Lutke expects the involvement of these personalities to produce even stronger companies than before. Ferriss said it is “a benevolent and encouraging kick in the ass.” As Ries said, doing > talking.

Participants are granted a free .CO domain for one year, $100 of Google Adword credits and $100 of MailChimp credits. The stores in each category with the highest sales will win $50,000, a $20,000 Google Adwords credit and a trip to New York to meet the mentors. Winners will be written about by fastcompany.com. The competition will close on February 28, 2013.
