Encourage your Child to Embrace Healthy Food

Posted by on Nov 13, 2012 in Food | 0 comments

Whether you prepare all of your child’s meals or allow him to purchase school lunches and snacks, helping encourage healthy eating at home will better prepare him or her to make the right decisions. Numerous studies show that lifetime eating habits are formed at an early age. You can encourage your child to eat healthier by providing a wide variety of options and helping teach appreciation for wholesome, delicious food.

Lead by Example

Your child is unlikely to take you seriously when you try to get them to eat healthy if you are constantly snacking on junk food yourself. Although there’s no need to do away with all treats, try to incorporate healthy snacks into your own diet as well. Find dishes that you can all enjoy, whether it’s pita chips and hummus or fresh fruit salads. If you have room for a garden at home, you can encourage your children to help you. They’ll love seeing how vegetables grow and tasting the results!

Appeal to All Senses

Humans use their sense of vision to decide whether a food is going to be worthwhile, before smell and taste even factor into the equation. Manufacturers of kid-friendly processed food know this, which is why they make sure food is brightly coloured and cut into fun shapes. You can use this basic principle to help make healthy foods more appealing to your kids when preparing school lunches marked with name labels UK. If you cut fruit into shapes, arrange plates into patterns or faces, and play with colours, you’ll make meals an experience to look forward to. Broccoli is going to be a lot more interesting to a child if it’s a miniature tree rather than a plain old vegetable. Encourage kids to play with their food and create their own faces or animals.

You can utilise the sense of smell by holding blind smell tests, to get kids acquainted with the different odours that food can have. They’ll be less repulsed by stinky blue cheese when they have correctly identified it, helping take the mystery out of odd food smells.

Cook Meals Together

There’s no better way to teach an appreciation for food than to get your children involved in the kitchen. Kids love to help out, whether it’s baking a batch of healthy muffins or preparing simple pasta for dinner. Don’t be afraid to let them make a little mess at first, as with practice they’ll get better. Read cookbooks together and let them help with the healthy meal plans. When you put some of the decision making power into their own hands, even picky eaters will be excited about dinner. Allow children to prepare their own lunches as well, using fun containers and kids labels to customise them. An added bonus is that cooking involves science, math, and even history, making it a hands-on way to learn about the world.

Cooking meals, growing vegetables, and creating food art are just a few ways to drum up enthusiasm for fresh, healthy eating. You can get creative in the kitchen to help your children gain a lifelong appreciation for nutrition.

Banapple Menu, Branches, Delivery

Posted by on Aug 11, 2011 in Food, Mixed Bag | 0 comments

It’s a wonder how Banapple was able to capture the hearts (and stomachs of course) of many people in its three years of existence. I was at Il Terazzo mall the other day and the mall was bare except for a few people here and there. It was a different sight though when we got to the second floor of that mall. It was full packed and all the people were dining at Banapple. Since I have heard rave reviews about the store I immediately joined the crowd and ordered a Banoffee pie of my own. The taste was amazing and I have been a fan ever since.

If you are dying to taste the newest craze in pastries in Manila then check out these branches:

The Healthy Chocolate Alternative

Posted by on Jul 10, 2011 in Food | 0 comments

In an effort to become more healthy our family is turning to fruits. Yesterday, we went shopping at the wet market and stocked up on papaya, mangoes, avocadoes, and bananas. After washing, I immediately put it in the fridge so it will last longer. Before, I used to leave it on top of the dining table because it looks nice – just like what we watch on TV where the fruits are displayed – but after wasting a bunch that’s when I realized it’s foolish to leave it on top of the table.

I have a sweet tooth though. I can give up my junk foods but I can never give up my chocolates. Good thing I found out about Shari’s Berries that offered chocolate dipped fruits which is healthier than just eating pure chocolates. So now I’m planning to stock up on Shari’s berries too by going to the official coupon website for Shari’s Berries for instant savings. Now I can eat my favorite chocolates without feeling guilty after.

Dan Eric’s – Ice Cream that Can Rival Famous Brands

Posted by on Oct 16, 2010 in Food | 8 comments

One thing I love about our place is the availability of Dan Eric’s Ice cream here. I don’t know if you have heard of this  brand of ice cream but for some reason, it’s not available in the leading supermarkets. When we were still living in Cainta, we couldn’t find this brand of ice cream anywhere. So when we moved back to Taguig, we promptly ordered half a gallon of their ube ice cream.

Recently, we had company at the house. They were looking for dessert so of course, what do we feed them but the best dessert we know of – Dan Eric’s Ube Ice Cream. Unfortunately, the store ran of out this Dan Eric’s so we had to settle for the Selecta brand. Having feasted on Dan Eric’s ube version for a couple of months now we were reminded how much more authentic their flavor is compared to Selecta’s. I really can’t understand why the supermarkets don’t carry them because aside from it being more delicious it’s also more affordable. As far as I remember, half a gallon costs only P160! That’s really a steal, right?

Anyway, I know I have been raving about Dan Eric’s Ice cream but all this eating is really not good for our diet.  Pretty soon we’ll be needing  weight loss supplements if we don’t stop eating our guilty pleasure.    On second thought, maybe we can just diet later.  All this talking about this delicious ice cream makes me want to go to the nearest store again and grab one.  See yah!

Icebreaker Ice Scramble

Posted by on Oct 14, 2010 in Food | 1 comment

We have all grown up loving ice scramble when we were growing up. Ice scramble before comes in a humble cart sold at the gate of our school. It may have been 20 years since I have tasted ice scramble but I sure didn’t forget how delicious and sweet ice scramble was and how yummy and rich the milk on top of it tasted.

It was an unassuming day at the mall that I came face to face again with one of my childhood loves. We just came from the hardware store searching for garage door parts to replace the parts that got broken when I noticed the perky sign that says Icebreaker Ice Scramble. I quickly ordered one and was delighted that although it was more expensive than the P5 I used to buy when I was still in grade school, it was still affordable for everyone’s pocket. One big container costs only P15 and it was enough to satisfy both me and my husband.

I was not disappointed with the taste.  Although it came in a fancy cup it is still as delicious just the way I remembered it.  In fact, I think Icebreaker Ice Scramble is even more delicious!  Since then I have noticed more and more ice scramble versions sprouting in the malls but sadly, the others don’t measure up.  I bought one at SM MOA – won’t even mention the brand – but I was just majorly disappointed.

Yoshinoya Buy One Take One Promo

Posted by on Sep 1, 2010 in Food | 3 comments

There are so many things that my hubby loves doing but isn’t able to do.  Like eating in a Japanese food, for example.  When we’re out in the mall he always asks me or our little one where should we eat so most of the time we end up eating at Jollibee, KFC, Chowking, Wendy’s, etc.  After we have eaten while we are strolling the mall he will suddenly remember how much he misses eating Japanese food whenever we pass by a Japanese restaurant and I would always chide him for always forgetting.

So today while looking for Branson vacation packages – yes, hubby also wants to go on a vacation – I read that Yoshinoya is offering a Buy One, Take One promo of their Katsudon and Yakinuki I will make sure that this weekend we would never forget to eat at hubby’s favorite restaurant.

To avail this promo just print out the coupons below and go to the nearest Yoshinoya branch.

Just remember that one coupon per transaction only and promo is valid until September 30, 2010.
