Saying No to Disposables

When Z was a baby, we used disposable diapers all the way. It’s convenient but I remember feeling guilty contributing that much waste to the environment. So now that I will be a second time Mom I’m determined to be more “adventurous” when it comes to diapers. Surely there are other more environment friendly options than those disposables. That’s why these past few days I’ve been researching more about cloth diapers. It’s harder than looking for an rv insurance quote because a lot of moms prefer using disposables. I don’t blame them but I feel that I have to at least try first this time around. I’m already nervous as early as now and I hope I have the willpower to not give up that easily as soon as the first sign of trouble appears. In times like this I can’t help but wish my grandma is still here with me. She has experience using cloth diapers on me when I was baby and we both survived that. I surely could learn a lot from her expertise.

Salt Special Screening

We’re excited because we’re going to a special screening of Salt tonight. I heard Angelina Jolie is better here than in Tomb Raiders. We didn’t want Z to go because it’s PG 13 but for some reason he refused to be left at my MIL’s house. So now we have no choice but to bring him with us. I just hope they let him in.

Anyway, I know that no matter how expensive the cinema is you still won’t find any electric fireplaces. A cold cinema can ruin my movie experience so I’ll surely bring my jacket. Of course, hubby will also be with his love tonight. It’s not me and I don’t get jealous because I love it too. Yes, our movie experience is not complete until we’re with our love – a big tub of cheese popcorn!

Z called my attention and told me to look at the TV. He said there were a lot of fat people on TV and that’s how I found out about The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition. Here’s the teaser that I saw on TV.

I’m excited to watch this as I’ve grown tired of PBB already. I didn’t watch a single episode of the teen edition. The Biggest Loser is sure to make a lot of people glued on their screens again. I salute the people who are brave enough to join this as I knew from watching the American edition that it’s going to be tough as hell.

The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition is now coming to the Philippines. I’m so glad PBB is over. Now I’m looking forward to watching this new reality show at ABS CBN. In this reality show, the contestant would do everything they can do lose weight. They would exercise like they have never exercised before and of course, cut back on food too. I’m not sure if they’re allowed to take even the best weight loss pills though.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to become Pinoy Biggest Loser then take a look first at the audition requirements to make sure you’re qualified.

* must be Pinoy / Filipino
* Male 18 to 40 years old, in good health and weighs 250 pounds and above
* Female 18 to 40 years old, in good health and weighs 200 pounds and above

Alicia Keys is Pregnant

I didn’t know that Alicia Keys is already five months pregnant. Alicia Keys confirmed last month on Good Morning America that she is already five months on the way. She also announced that she is engaged to hip hop producer Swizz Beatz, they are set to get married before the end of the year. Keys is due in November this year. I wish her good luck on her pregnancy and hope she’ll have an easy delivery.

Why Prenatal Vitamins is Important for Pregnant Moms

A pregnant woman should always take prenatal vitamins. Prenatal vitamins are formulated to make up for any nutritional deficiencies in the mother’s diet. These contain vitamins, minerals, iron, and calcium.

Folic acid is important to reduce the risk of the baby having spinal bifida, a spinal cord defect that can leave the baby with birth defects such as mental retardation and paralysis. Folic acid can be found in green leafy vegetables, nuts, beans, and citrus fruits but if a mother is not eating a balanced diet then taking prenatal vitamins is imperative.

Iron will help both the mother and the baby’s blood carry enough oxygen while calcium will help the mother not lose her bone density. The baby in the womb will need the calcium in the mother’s bones in order to grow that’s why a calcium supplement is necessary.

Different brands of prenatal vitamins contain different amounts of vitamins so consult your doctor or your midwife on which brand to take.

A History Lesson Too Early

For two nights now I have been sleeping late. I would like to take some sleep aids but I guess that’s better because I’m more productive now. I’m glad I’m gaining back my momentum. The first trimester of pregnancy was harder than I expected but I thank God it’s all over now. Aside from this persistent cough that I came down with a couple of days ago I’m on the road to recovery and ready to work again. I have so many things I need to do before I give birth in December and that’s why I need to keep really busy.

I’m also happy that I get to spend more time with Z now that my schedule is more flexible. We get to do a lot together like watch his favorite shows, play his favorite games, and talk about all kinds of stuff. You won’t believe the stuff we talk about - he’s just so curious! Like the other day, he started asking about Andres Bonifacio again and how he became a hero. So since I’m a person who’s into details I just can’t give him a one sentence answer so we opened his history book and started browsing from the beginning until almost to the end. So now he knows more than he needs to know like Spaniards, Americans, and the Japanese who came to occupy the Philippines and the sacrifices that our heroes did to defend us from them. We searched for pictures of Rizal being imprisoned in Fort Santiago and because little Z has visited that same place a year ago we searched for his picture there. I showed him the footsteps of Rizal from his prison cell all the way to Luneta where he was shot. He was delighted that he had a picture of himself walking on those same footprints.

Of course, after that I had to show him a picture of Rizal being shot by firing squad and we even watched a video of the World War II. Geez, I really don’t know when to stop, do I? Now my five year old knows more than he needs to know!
