Grandma and Her Stairlift

Posted by on Sep 27, 2012 in Our Family | 0 comments

My hubby’s grandma is already 88 years old but despite her age, she is still as strong as ever. She still goes out on her own and can climb the stairs without the use of a stairlift. She credits her strong body with proper diet and working hard and not being idle.

Two years ago an accident happened that shocked us all. She was climbing the stairs as usual after having her lunch. When she reached the top she slipped and fell down with a loud, “Thud!” Her grandkids came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital.

Amazingly, when the doctor examined her they found that her hip bone was intact despite the hard fall. Her doctors couldn’t believe that she only suffered a small crack in her bone despite her very advanced age.

Although her injuries was not that devastating she was still bedridden for three months. Still her fighting spirit was strong and would try to sit and finally walk a little every day. When she was able to finally walk they installed a stairlift so she could go up and down the stairs. It has been a big boost to our grandma’s spirit when she could wander around again. Being confined in her own room was not acceptable to her because she was used to moving on her own.

It’s been two years since that sad incident and I’m happy to report that she’s as mobile as ever. She can now go up and down the stairs without assistance. She can even go to church every Sunday. We have seen firsthand how resilient she had been in the adversity she faced and how she came out victorious with a little help from her stairlift which was her ride to her freedom when she needed it the most. She still keeps it as a memento to remind her of the adversity she overcame two years ago. We know she’s proud of herself and she has every right to because not everyone can survive a fall like she did.

This is a sponsored post for Handilift Residential, however, all the points and views are my own.

We went swimming last weekend. It’s been a long time since we have gone on a vacation so when our friends from church invited us we said, “Why not?” So even though there was flooding in the house we went ahead to enjoy the pool.

Moving Houses

We will be moving houses. I’m excited to live in a new house after living in the same one for years. Most important of all I am happy we will be living in a place that does not get flooded. Although I am looking forward to moving I am not looking forward to packing our clothes and things. We have accumulated lots of stuff throughout the years so I am anticipating we’ll use lots of boxes to pack our stuff. Of course, our furniture is the most important and we’ll hire a big truck to transport those. Next, our clothes including my favorite custom printed t-shirts from shirtmagic will be packed in big boxes. Lastly, our utensils, books, paintings, and decors will also be packed.

How I wish packing stuff is as easy as writing about it. Good thing my husband is so helpful and will surely do most of the hard work. :)

Working Girl Again

Posted by on Sep 24, 2012 in Mixed Bag | 0 comments

I’ll be a working girl again by next week. No, I didn’t apply for a job away from home but yes, I’ll be working. I’ll be working in my Dad’s furniture shop. I’m not officially a worker but I will be there everyday to learn the ins and outs of the business. We are trying to set up an online shop so more customers can find us and I didn’t realize how much work it entailed. It didn’t help that I didn’t know a thing about the business. So once I saw an opportunity to move, I convinced my husband to rent near the shop so I can finally learn the art of selling furniture.

To tell you the truth, I don’t know how I will manage with a two year old and a homeschooled son. Good thing my husband is also working at home so he can supervise and take care of the kids while I’m away. I really need to learn to manage my time really well for this to work. Must buy a citizen watch soon. After all, how can I manage my time if I don’t have a watch? Anyway, wish me luck!

Birthdays are really very special for kids and they remain very eager and excited about their birthdays to come earlier. Parents always love to treat their wards with the best birthday parties ever. Some of the kid’s birthday party ideas may include the importance of location and other accessories used. It is very important for the parents to invite some of their children’s best friends to the party. Exciting gifts are very much appreciated by kids. The location is very important and it can be either home or may be some place which can really test the excitement level of the birthday child.
Home is considered to be the best suited place for celebrating birthdays of kids because it is economical as well. One can easily decorate the place with personalized ribbon for favors which can be customized very easily. The gifts should be something which the kid really wants and it is better if the parents can keep it as a surprise. Surprises often make kids very happy. The food is taken into deep consideration because friends visiting the party need to appreciate everything they have come for. Birthdays are special occasions which are perfectly carried out with a blend of good music and hospitality.
A location selected in an open area or park can be suitable for places with lower temperatures. The places should be decorated by the help of professionals who are in charge of decoration purposes. An open area can fairly accommodate a larger number of visitors. The food can be served under a shed or may be in a house nearby which can be availed through rent. The area needs to be very clean and personalized ribbon for flavors can be alternatively used in order to provide a festive mood to the visitors and the birthday child.
