The Azkals, the National Football Team of the Philippines, is at last gaining the attention of the Filipinos. Who could ignore their almost heroic win in the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup where they beat the almost unbeatable defending champion, Vietnam? They eventually lost to Indonesia but that was that event made us sit up and take notice.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the team members are good looking. I admit I am not a football fanatic and I’m just like the rest of the Filipinos who are taking interest in this sport just now but it’s not too late to get to know them, right? That’s why I compiled some information on the Azkals Members.

Neil Etheridge

Birthday: February 7, 1990
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 161 lbs.
Neil Etheridge was born to a Filipina mother who hails from Tarlac. His father is from the UK and that’s where he was raised. He started playing football when he was nine. He attended Chelsea Academy in 2003 and played with both James and Phil Younghusband. His position was a forward but after the convincing of his coach he switched to becoming a goalkeeper. Etheridge was invited to play for the Philippine team in 2007 but declined the offer. A year later, he was again invited to join the team. He eventually accepted the offer after being convinced by Phil Younghusband.

Phil Younghusband
Position: Midfielder

Birthday: August 4, 1987
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 159 lbs.
Born in England to an English father and a Filipina mother, Phil Younghusband together with his brother, James started playing at football at Chelsea before being recruited by the Azkals. He is, by far, the most popular team member of the Azkals having joined a celebrity singing contest in the Philippines before achieving fame as one of the Azkals.
James Younghusband

Height: 6’1”
Weight: 171 lbs.
James Younghusband was born in Middlesex, England to Philip and Susan Younghusband. His started his early career in football at Chelsea before the age of twelve. James was recruited to the Philippine Football team through an anonymous person who found out he was half Filipino through a Playstation game. He and brother, Phil were eventually signed up.
Christopher Camcam
Birthday: September 30, 1994
Position: Goalkeeper Alternate
Number: 20
Height: 6’2″
You would be surprised to hear that Christopher is the youngest player of the group at the age of 16. He is not your average sixteen year old, however, at the height of 6’2″ this teenager can easily be mistaken as much older. With the encouragement of his parents, Christopher started playing at the age of six and never looked back.

I love AZCALS very much . Next time pls. don’t be so loose specially when the ball hit forward towards the opponent’s goal there must be always a back-up so that the ball will not be intercept to the opposite opponent .There must be a substituition with regards to the players that are tired and injured already. Remember back-up to one another so that teamwork will provide.
