How to Clean Your Air Conditioner in Preparation for Summer

Summer is here and I hope you have cleaned your air conditioner filters just like you clean your furnace filters before winter.  Although hubby was a bit late I’m glad he has finally given our hardworking ac unit the attention it deserved. The other day, he took time off from his busy schedule to clean our AC’s filter.

Hiring professional is the best way to thoroughly clean your ac unit but that doesn’t mean you can’t do some cleaning yourself from time to time. It would be tedious but it would be all worth it as you will be saving lots in terms of money and energy if you regularly clean you ac unit.

So while hubby cleaned away I decided to follow him around so I can teach you how to clean your ac unit yourself. Here it is:

1.  Unplug you air conditioner and remove the front cover.

2. Remove the ac filters. Look at it through the sun. If the light can’t pass through anymore it means you have neglected cleaning your air conditioner too long! That’s our filter alright with a year’s worth of filth and dust. hehe

3. Remove the dirt with a brush. When enough dirt has been removed you have to go to the next step. Clean the filter further with soap and water to remove all dirt that remained.

4. There are other filters too aside from the main one. You can remove it and clean it too.

5. Next step is to clean the exterior so your air conditioner would look new from inside and out!

5. Put your filters in place. Just look at hubby’s work. The filter looks new again!

At last, here is our spanking, new ac unit. We have the Carrier brand, by the way.

Now that you’ve cleaned your AC it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Turn on your AC and enjoy the cool, fresh breeze that’s coming from it. When the temperature hits too high you won’t feel it that much because your AC is running efficiently.

We usually have units cleaned out by my husband’s former tauhan. Usually every 3 months. But now that he’ll be based here, he has to do it himself. :)
