I Miss Zambales

Posted by on Feb 27, 2010 in Me, Our Family | 4 comments

When I was a little girl I lived in the province of Zambales in the town of Palauig. We’re just a stone’s throw away from the sea, there are trees everywhere. We have rivers that’s just a ride away and ponds too. The ponds had no pond fountains during my time but we were content on splashing around in it. It’s something every person in the city dreams of going but back then I long for the big city. I wanted to go to Manila because I wanted to see the famous malls and the famous cities in Manila. I didn’t want the trees and the beaches that I see everyday.

Now after almost twenty years of living the city I am so sick and tired of it. The city has lost some of its glitz and glamor. Going to the mall doesn’t seem that fun anymore. I long to go to the beach and feel the cool breeze from the trees instead. Unfortunately, going back and living in our province is unthinkable at this point. All my first degree relatives are already here. There are few job opportunities there so we’re stuck here. I still long for it from time to time but I guess it’ll just remain a dream. I just hope we can go back there some day for a visit so Z can see where I grew up and have the chance to climb the mango trees, swim at the beaches, ride the banca, go fishing in the ponds, and meet his relatives there.

A Reader’s Comment on Agua Bendita

Posted by on Feb 27, 2010 in Celebrities, Featured Articles, Home Life | 5 comments

I have been receiving hits for my Agua Bendita post. This new teleserye of ABC-CBN is really piquing a lot of interests because they even take the time to search for it in Google. Me and my son watch it every night. He refuses to sleep before the Agua Bendita timeslot. I like it too and I’m sure a lot of people are now fans. We cried when Santino ended because we thought they wouldn’t be able to replace it but Agua Bendita proved to be a hit.

So yesterday I was checking my blog’s comments for the day. I was surprised to receive a really long comment. I thought at first it was spam but upon reading I realized it was from a reader most probably brought in by Google and obviously not a blogger because she (I think she’s a mother) didn’t put a blog url. Anyway, I know for sure she doesn’t have a blog because if she has then she would have voiced out her opinion on her own blog and not here. Since she took her time to write this really long comment and she has a message that I think is noteworthy I am re-posting her comment here.

I was very sad that Santino story has to end. The new Agua Bendita story is not good for children. I am warning other parents not to allow their children to watch this new series. I personally think that those characters portrayed by Bendita and Lola (Pilar Pilapil) are out of this world of normal beings. They are portraying monstrous, demonic behaviour which are are not existing in the world of normal beings. If your children are pond of watching this ceries, please guide them and explain every details to your children. There could be a negative psychological effect to your children. Meanwhile, even the attitude of Agua who portrays a GODLY image is also unimaginable – out of this world also (not real). This is the reason why our tele-serye never improves. Gagawa tayo ng super-bait na bida na super-tanga na ang dating. The only reason why these Bidas will triumph at the end is not because they are smart but because of luck and God’s help. This is one lesson that our directors and producers must change. Can you please give us a hero that thinks and triumph in their own will.

I’m so sorry to all viewers na nag-eenjoy ng tele-serye na ito. Me even if my kids love it. Ayaw ko silang manood nito ng walang supervision. Pero nahihirapan na rin akong mag-paliwanag sa kanila ng nangyayari.

To the Agua-Bendita management and to the Board of Censors, paki-review muna ang story nito at lagyan ng Parental Guidance rating every end ng commercial para ma-remind ang viewers. Masama talaga ang epekto sa bata!! I believe there are NO characters of Agua, Bendita and Lola that exist in this world. And please do not arouse the sadistic characters of the young viewers. masama ang epekto nito pag-laki nila.

Like her I also get alarmed with Bendita’s character. When she is being bratty with her sister, Agua,  I can see Z smiling. He thinks what Bendita’s doing is funny. Maybe they can tone down her character a bit because it won’t be good if children starts thinking it’s cool and starts copying it, especially the little girls who identify the most with Bendita. If I remember school when I was little some of my girl classmates were really bratty and the children today might see Bendita’s character as a confirmation that it’s cool to be like that.
On the other hand, I also commend them for showing Bendita praying before going to sleep. Z always prays before going to school to ask for help from Jesus because at first he had a hard time coping up with his school work but he didn’t find any need to pray at night when he’s comfortable in his bed. When the episode showed Bendita praying Z I immediately told Z, “Take a look at Bendita, she even prays at night before sleeping.” That very same night Z started praying in his own free will before he goes to bed.

How about you?  What’s your take on Agua Bendita?

Class Picture

Posted by on Feb 27, 2010 in Home Life, Z | 2 comments

Z came home today and was excited to show me something. It was their very first ever class picture. I looked at it right away and was relieved he looked great! He was not frowning in the picture. He immediately told one of his classmate was a fake. It turned out she was absent when that picture was taken but thanks to technology she was magically added to the picture. I can’t believe my eyes when I saw it. Sure, I hear about photoshopping pictures all the time done in magazines but it never occurred to me that they were also doing it in class pictures.

Anyway, I’m so happy with his Kinder class picture so this weekend I’m going to buy a picture frame so I can display it in our home.  I will also look for tv stands to replace our old one. I’ve been thinking of  buying one for a long time of because what we have at home doesn’t go well with our furniture anymore. I need a darker colored tv stand that would match our center table.

So You Don’t Have to Wonder How your Order Adds Up

Posted by on Feb 26, 2010 in Mixed Bag | 0 comments

When we fetch my hubby at Eastwood we always wait for him at KFC. That’s the closest fastfood  from his office that Z likes to eat from. I was already familiar with that KFC branch there but last time I visited I was surprised to see this in front of me.

You know how it was when you’re at the cashier ordering your food and the crew behind the counter starts pressing  down some keys? I always wonder what she types or if she was typing the right order. Now I don’t have to wonder anymore because they have installed an LCD in front of the customer while they are ordering. I was able to verify that my order was correct and I can check if they have added it right. I’m really impressed they’ve upgraded their equipment even their receipt printer to make the receipt more understandable and readable. These little things I’m sure their customers will appreciate and will feel more valued. I hope other fast food chains follow suit. I think they are the first ones that did this but I’m not in the position to say because we don’t get to eat out often. Have you seen this installed in other fast food outlets?

Medicines for Chewee

Posted by on Feb 26, 2010 in Chewee | 0 comments

Bam went to the pharmacy earlier today. I asked her to go there to buy Chewee’s medicines. I also asked her to check out slimming pills so I can get rid of my fatty belly which has been quietly building up over the last two years that I have been staying at home. As much as I like staying here all day my body has suffered from the lack of exercise and I would need slimming pills to get back my old figure.

Unfortunately, Chewee’s medicines were so expensive that I had to postpone buying it. Chewee was prescribed four medicines to treat his urinary tract infection and hookworm. We spent P1.3k for that aside from the lab test which was also approximately the same amount. We don’t care for the  expense.  We’re just so glad we had the money to buy his meds and we were able to give it to him in the nick of time. I’m still thankful that he seems okay despite of his alarming blood test result. He’s slowly eating, he’s moving from time to time, he’s barking, and sometimes he’s playing with our cat. We breathe a sigh of relief every time he does things like these that we take for granted every day. I’m so glad he’s such a strong dog. We’re looking forward to him getting well and we’ll surely treat him for a haircut at the dog parlor when that time comes. It’s in preparation for the long, hot summer ahead. We want him to be comfortable as possible and his thick hair would make it impossible.
