It was last Black Saturday that we decided to spend the remaining holy week days at Binan but S still has work so we can’t go till 2 pm. So having nothing else to do that Saturday morning we decided to take Chewee to the vet and give him his much needed grooming. I was getting a bit concerned because of the unbearable heat lately and with Chewee’s hair growing longer and longer I know it must be so uncomfortable for him. Z’s haircut was also long overdue so off we went to the vet which was only one tricycle ride away. I had a feeling that the place might be closed because of the holiday but I was still hoping. We got there and it was open for business but the person in charge of the grooming was unfortunately not there. The vet suggested we go to Tiendesitas and was quite sure it was open despite the holidays. My initial reaction was we definitely can’t go because we were in our pambahay with matching tsinelas but as then as I got used to the idea decided to go anyway. We boarded a taxi and were at Tiendesitas after a few minutes. Most of the establishments were closed but thank goodness a few were open. I shopped around and found out that the cost for grooming was P500.00. We settled for one store that promised to give Chewee the best care. When we arrived they were already grooming three dogs. We were not allowed to go inside the grooming area but there was a see-through glass so we can see what’s inside. I told the groomer to give Chewee a puppy cut but when he learned Chewee was only 5 months old he advised against it so we just settled for a little trim for him. I have read some horror stories in the net about groomers maltreating dogs while grooming so we kept an eye on him the whole time and never left the pet store. Sure enough I noticed that the other shih tzu that was being groomed was yelping a lot more than the others. As I have mentioned there were three dogs being groomed and our shih tzu was the fourth. Two other dogs plus Chewee have their owners watching closely while the fourth dog has the owner nowhere in sight. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that that dog was the one yelping in pain more frequently. I heard its groomer’s comments everytime the dog cries in pain and they were nowhere sympathetic. Although Chewee didn’t have a bad experience seeing the maltreatment personally seriously makes me think twice about going back to that store. I guess I have to find another groomer or I just have to learn to groom Chewee myself. Anyway, Chewee was done in about 1 1/2 hours and then it was Z’s turn to have his haircut. No, not at the pet store but at his usual barber shop. I immediate took a shot of them after we got home.
