Z’s New Toys...

Z has a lot of new toys lately. Since he loves cars and has way too many toy cars we decided it was time to buy him a toy highway where he can play with his cars. It is battery operated and complete with a toll gate, gas station and a parking lot. Z absolutely loved it and so does his friends. One of his friends even cried when his mom came by to pick him up. Z played with it nonstop that the battery lasted only a day. We were not able to buy another battery for a few days and Z learned his lesson. The next time we put some batteries there he remembered to turn it off when he is not using it.

Z also got a Playstation 2 courtesy of his Lolo and Tito Lorenz. I thought S was going to be the one who will be using it a lot but Z loved playing Lightning Mcqueen with it. He is already good in maneuvering the car and would cry when I tell him it is time to stop.

Aside from that I also bought Z some new books. A Cars and Trucks book so he’ll know the specific name of the truck when we are on the road, a children’s bible, and a book entitled “The Owl and the Pussycat” which I absolutely loved when I was in kindergarten so I want him to learn about it too.

— The Best Gift Ever —

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.
Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said,”With all your money you give me a Bible?”And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.

He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the stillnew Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11,”And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?” As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God’s blessing because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for…
PLS. SEND THIS TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.

Lesson I learned: If your gift is not packed the way you want it, it’s because it is better packed that way for God knows best what is good for us. Learn to appreciate small things and never let an opportunity pass to let the people you love know that you love them and appreciate them — it could be the last time you see them.

Z’s First Movie...

It has been a very long time since S and I have been able to watch a movie. Before Z was born, we were avid movie watchers but since Z came to us we were simply too afraid to enter a movie house for fear that Z would cry or make some unwanted noise and we will be forced to exit prematurely. So for 3 ½ years we missed every great movie that was shown, except Spiderman 3 that we simply could not miss. Two weeks ago we decided that maybe it was about the right time that Z watch a movie. He is already toilet trained and you can reason out to him when worse comes to worst. So off we went to Megamall to watch Kung Fu Panda, the line was long but we could not care less – after a 3 year hiatus we were finally back watching a movie. I did not think I miss it that much until we were inside. S missed the popcorn more and proceeded to order one. Z was amazed at the big screen at first and munched happily on the snacks that we brought. But after he was done eating, he started to grow restless. He complained that it was too cold inside, I hugged him as tight as I could to keep him warm but he said he was still cold so I passed him off to his dad. He continued to squirm and when he could not take it anymore he blurted out the magic words, “Mommy, I want to poopoo.” I could not believe it, so I pretended I did not hear. Then I heard some more magic words, “You want to poopoo, Z? Let’s go I’ll take you,” my husband said. Too shocked to even speak, I remained seated watching the movie while S ushered Z to the toilet. It turned out to be false alarm, “Z only peed,” S said as he takes his seat. I breathed a sigh of relief and continued to watch the movie. I was determined to savor every minute of it, I laughed at all the funny scenes and I oohed at all the fight scenes. Z appeared not interested anymore and would just stand and run in front. Then, for the second time that night Z again said that he needed to poo. I held my breath but the ever so gracious S volunteered to take him again. I filled him in on the scenes he missed as he came back. I breathed a sigh of relief because I thought the worst is over, unfortunately it was not because for the third time that night Z wanted to go to the bathroom and again S took him again. So that was how Z spent his first movie ever, but eventhough he missed most of the scenes he was still able to show us some cool kung fu moves in the end.

He still could not read but…...

Z often asks me to read his books out loud to him. One of his favorites is the book “My First Train Trip.” Unlike his other books that has only one sentence per page, this on has one small paragraph or two on each page. When I first bought it I was concerned that Z would not like it because he would not be able to understand the more complex sentences this book has (at least that was what I originally thought) but since he loved trains I went ahead and purchased it. It turned out that Z liked it so much and would ask me to read it more often than I wish – it’s longer than his other books so sometimes I find it tiring especially if he asks me to do it twice in a row. One particularly tiring day, I was again reading the book and I decided to pause in the middle of a sentence. I do not know why I did it but I looked at him as if challenging him to finish the sentence and to my surprise he piped in and recited the rest of the sentence. I was so surprised but I went ahead, read the beginning of the next sentence and again paused in the middle, without hesitation Z finished the rest of that sentence too. By the third sentence the tables have turned, instead of me entertaining Z, he was the one entertaining me. I was overjoyed and amazed as he finished almost all of the sentences I read. But my excitement was short lived because Z finally caught on to what I was doing and accused me of not reading his book. He would whine if I pause for even a microsecond. That incident gave me an idea, maybe he does not need to learn how to read after all and I will just verbally cram all the knowledge he needs to know in that sponge brain of his – on second thought that will require me to read aloud millions of words. You are right – it’s a really really bad idea.

Typhoon Frank...

As electricity came back around 1pm, I at last heard of the devastating impact of the typhoon Frank to our country. It was heartbreaking to learn that MV Princess of the Star, a commercial shipping vessel on the way to Cebu went down and on board were more than 700 people. Reports say that the ship suffered engine problems so it was not able to land on time. The storm caught up with it and the rest is still unknown. It has been hours and hours since it went down but they have only found 4 survivors up to this time. My heart goes out to the families of the 700 others who are still missing out there. Aside from that tragic news, typhoon Frank also left thousands of families homeless and hundreds of municipalities flooded. Frank has left the country but alas left many grieving families behind.
